Here are the colors, patterns & coat types our rattie friends come in. This is also a culmination of rats that I have bred at my rattery & a couple I have had shipped in. I hope this helps you to identify your little ones. Or maybe help you decide what you are looking for.

Roan
Roans start out the normal color and as they age they gradually turn completely white. This is a European gene.

Velveteen

Note The Soft Cotton Like Slight Wave To The Fur. Not As Curly As Rex And Much Thicker. You Can't See The Skin On A Velveteen Because It's Dense Like A Cotton Ball.

PEW Self Dumbo Satin. (White Satins have a yellowish tinge to their color.)	Black Irish Satin.(Satin are not as shiny as they are longer haired.)

Black Variegated (Splashy back and should have a head spot. Color covers head and stops before the shoulders. Often there is a notch coming up the middle of the shoulders.)

(How do you tell a recessive blaze from a High white one? Look at the pedigree!)

Recessive Blazes
(How do you tell a recessive blaze from a High white one? Look at the pedigree!)

Agouti Wedge Blazed Berkshire Dumbo Recessive blazed rats are not High White and do not have the megacolon gene. They have a blaze that looks just like a HW blaze but they lack the "extra" white markings that HW rats have. Recessives have the normal pattern with a blaze on it.	Black Variegated with Recessive Blaze This is from Bonnie Walters line. Rat bred by RG. This gene happens to be safe to breed to Down Under rats.

Blue	aagg	American blue, sky blue, Brittish blue. Brittish blue is the only blue that is dark to the skin, the others have a white under coat. Black or ruby eyes in the case that an eye dilution is present, this would be a sky blue.
Silver	aaggpp	Silver color. 2 copies of American blue and 2 copies of pink eyed white.
Russian Blue	aadd	Steel blue with dark "heathering" on hair tips. Black eyes.
Russian Silver	aaddgg	2 copies of American blue and 2 copies of Russian blue.
Mink	aamm	A Warm purple/brown color. Ruby eyes.
Lilac	aamm	Includes dilution modifiers. Eye dilutions modify the mink gene causing a liter mink coloring. Ruby eyes.
Pearl	aammpepe	Light greyish silver color. Black eyed.
Mocha	aammRr	Light "minky" color. Red eyes. In the UK it is called Havana.
Platinum	aaggmm	Warm silver/pink color. 2 copies of mink and 2 copies of American blue. Ruby eyes.
Chocolate	aabb	Rich dark brown.

Coats

Type	Code	Description
Rex	Re/Re	Curly coat. You can see the skin under the coat. Tight curls.
Double Rex	Cu/Cu	Patch work hairless. Almost a hairless but with "patches" of fur.
Velveteen	Re/Re	Also called a "bad" Rex. Cotton like wave and thick fur, you cannot see the skin underneath.
Hairless	hr/hr	Basically a nude rat. A rat having no hair. Whiskers are very short and curly.
Satin	Unknown	Produces rats with longer, shiny fur as well as whiskers that are slightly bent. The satin mutation also tends to add a yellowish cast to white or light-colored fur.
Silvering	si/si	Silver hairs mixed in the coat. It is both recessive and dominant.

Ear & Body Types

Type	Code	Description
Dumbo	du/du	Ears lower and rounder. Sitting on the side of the hear rather on the top in the case of a standard eared rat.
Tailless/Manx	tal	Absence of a tail from birth. Missing vertebra.
Dwarf		Genetically smaller. 2 copies of the gene produce dwarf. They have larger eyes and shorter thinner tails as well as tiny feet.
Zuckers	fa/fa	Very obese rat genetically. It is a genetic condition. Usually diabetic and die young. This is very rare.
